Valentines day is 3 days away! If you need a little something to show your <3 I have a DIY Origami Heart Valentine tutorial for you. It’s really easy to make, you will need a piece of 8.5 x 11 paper and if you’d like to use the hand lettered illustration shown in the example above you can print that out at home using the download link at the end of this post. There is also a video at the end of the video in case these photos aren’t enough and you’re still a little confused.
Step 1: Print out the pdf download on regular paper and cut around the dotted lines.
Step 2: Fold the paper in half going from left to right.
Step 3: Unfold the paper and fold in half again going from top to bottom.
Step 4: Turn the paper right side down (so the image is facing the table) and then fold up the bottom quarter so that it meets the center fold.
Step 6: Turn the paper around so the fold you just made is now facing the table. Grab the bottom corners and fold them into the center. Do this on both bottom corners, both corners should meet each other and the design should line up.
If it isn’t lining up perfectly, adjust it slightly so they letters are seamless!
Step 7: Turn the paper around again so the design is facing the table. Fold the bottom triangle upwards so it meets the top edge of the paper.
Step 8: Turn the paper around again. Fold over the bottom inside flaps so the top corner of the open side lines up with the bottom edge. Do this on both sides.
Step 9: Open those triangle folds you just made and flatten them out.
Step 10: Fold over the bottom triangle on both sides towards the flattened flaps.
Step 11: Now fold the right and left hand side in towards the center so both sides meet.
Step 12: Fold up the bottom points so it creates the round part of the heart.
This is what the back looks like when it’s all folded up, turn it around and use the back to stand it up. I used these as place cards, so if you’re planning a nice dinner these look great sitting on top of the plate. You can try it using a blank sheet and write out your lover’s name.
